US airline operator Delta Airlines carried over 18,600 passengers from
Bucharest across the Atlantic between June and October, although the
Romanian market remains some distance off meeting other financial
performers in the Central and Eastern Europe. "The Romanian market is
moving rapidly, although it is still lagging behind other countries in
the former Soviet bloc, like the Czech Republic. Romania is catching up
by making bold leaps," says Glen Hauenstein, Delta Airlines executive
vice-president. The American company carried over 18,600 passengers
from Bucharest across the Atlantic between June and mid October. In
June, Delta resumed the Bucharest-New York flight after a ten-year
hiatus on the Romanian market.
Approximately 10,000 passengers travelled from Bucharest to New York
with Delta Airlines in the first 100 days. Although it is not one Delta
Airlines' financial performers, the Romanian air transport market
provides the American operator with the advantages of an emerging
market with high growth potential.
